A Big Day

Roedean School in Brighton yet again hosted the IAPS Netball Tournament this year. Our girls had a bit of a shocker, winning only half of their gruelling matches. But it was all put right when we pulled off the road on the way home to have half an hour on the beach. We bought them all sticks of rock and let them be little girls, lost in giggles and dreamy joy as they teased the receding waves to pick up the furthest rock they dare, before retreating inland with the water at their heels again. It was lovely to watch. Time and time again they all repeated this game, some of them becoming more daring and having the wet socks to prove their courage! I think they all wanted the accolade of wet socks in fact!

A quick turn-around when home and then out for the tail-end of a family friend’s party in Chelsea. Little did I know how the evening would unravel as I agreed with my brother to head out for a bite to eat afterwards.

I pulled on the spare helmet and hopped on the back of his Vespa... it coughed into a hearty little roar and off we went. Zipping in and out of traffic, up through the beautiful streets North of Kensington, antique shops slipping away, chandeliers winking from window to window... it felt exhilarating, free, joyful, young, happy-go-lucky. I wanted it to carry on and on and on. Dinner and a good chat with Rob in the Electric House Bar & Brasserie, Portobello Road... it is a really quirky little place and the food was incredible. Very, very cool neighbourhood.

Good to have Rob back in London again. I love my family.
