If you have read my Blogs, you will have seen this idea weaving its colour through much of what I have written. Even today I was reminded once again of the joy that can ensue from adhering to this. So I’ll share it once again in the hopes that some of its sunny magic might rub off on you.
It is a frightening thing to honestly ask yourself, “Do I spend my life retelling stories from the past? Is the present just a platform from which to look over your shoulder and reminisce?” or even, “Am I just longing for this or that to happen to me one day? And when it finally happens, then I’ll be really happy.”
Who are you kidding? It is only in the here and now that you will create the stories to retell. And it is only in the here and now that you will fashion your world and build something meaningful (and hopefully happy) which reaches into tomorrow. Hopes and aspirations and dreams are wonderful things, but if the anxiety and fear of trying to realise them taints your ‘here and now’, they become mere chattels that pull you under.
It takes immense will-power to drag the wandering and worrying mind back onto the here and now, but I have found I’ve been rewarded handsomely with a deep sense of connected happiness in the world when I’ve managed to do this. Our greatest gift is the present.
