The mother and daughter

A child of about the age of five stood with her mother in front of me in the supermarket queue.

"Cashier One" was called out and, instead of both of them going to the available till, the little girl wandered over to it on her own with a tub of strawberries and a box of shortbread. She had her chest puffed out and stood tall, making charming eye contact with the cashier and handing over her payment with a thank you. I angled myself to look at the mother’s face. She stood with a basket full of the rest of their shopping and she beamed with pride and with love. At that point, the little girl looked to her mother as if to say, "Hey... look what I did all on my own, Mummy. I did it!" It was a beautiful moment to witness.

The mother was called to "Cashier Two" and stooped low to kiss her daughter’s nose. I can’t wait to be able to feel a moment like that as a mummy one day.
