Dance Connection

Since getting back to the old dancing, I’ve been overwhelmed by my desire to feel "gently" handled on the dance floor. No heavy lead, yanking or Chinese burns. No twisting my arm behind me in some godforsaken Texas-Tommy disaster (categorically the worst move in the world). No 360 degree gut-grab. No fancy-pants shapes of any description, nor stamping of feet. No wooden-legged manoeuvres and no grinding... particularly not in conjunction with wooden-leg.

What makes me happy is simple, gentle and entirely understated connection that I can melt into and be relaxed. I also like to feel that the connection with the lead is such that I don’t feel that I cannot "opt out" of a move. In short, I can steal the lead away from him and the connection will still stand, uncompromised. Equal partnership rather than powerful control. I had such a dance with almost a complete beginner a few weeks ago... so uncomplicated and free! Dancing is much more beautiful this way and I treasure my dances with the gorgeous men (and girlies) who have just the right touch. xx
