Amy is my niece (22 months) and Fin is my nephew (4 years old). I looked after them this afternoon and, after Amy had called me “Mummy” for about an hour, I decided I’d properly try to teach her how to say Lucy. She then insisted on calling me Daddy, until finally this evolved resolutely into “Baddie”. In fact, she lolled round the room and garden chanting “Baddie, Baddie, Baddie” with tremendous glee for several minutes. It was very funny. I turned to Fin and said, “Hey, Fin, I think Amy thinks I’m a Baddie!”
And his immediate and articulate response came with, “That’s because you called yourself the Tickle Monster and Cuddle Monster earlier. Monsters are all baddies.”
And then, to top it off, he joined Amy’s floppy chorus: “Baddie, Baddie, Baddie, Baddie...”
My brother, Timothy, was called Titty when Fin was tiny. That was probably worse.
