The Burning Candy Crew

While I was in Bacon Street, I was drawn to another piece of Street Art. Two owls by the artist Dscreet from the UK-based group The Burning Candy Crew. Look closely and you can see the mural initialled-off with BC on the left. I love it! And was even happier to spy on the junction of Shoreditch High Street and Holywell Lane this bright cocktail by, what looks to be, the whole BC Crew. It stretches along inaccessible heights. And, as far as I could tell, it hadn’t therefore fallen prey to graff and taggers.

The Burning Candy Crew are made up of nine artists, male and female. They sometimes work together. They sometimes branch out alone. Dscreet, as I’ve already mentioned, appears to like owls with large staring eyes. They’re impossible to miss. Then there's Gold Peg, who paints just that. Sweet Toof does the joke shop teeth and has produced a collaborative mural with the Mighty Mo monkey here. I think that Cept has taken care of the lettering, which reads "Get Over". I couldn't get a better wide-angle image of the whole mural, otherwise I might have expected to also see some sharp-teethed mice or crocodiles by Rowdy, some bubblegum-pink brains by LL Brainwashed, and other zany madness by Cyclops and Tek33. I will hunt these down in due course, mark my word!

This is just along Holywell Lane and is a mural by Gold Peg and Mighty Mo, their collaborative name appearing as Mo'Peg.

I was looking back at some of the first graff and tag photos I took on Sclatter Street and, on closer inspection, I noticed a Sweet Toof and Cyclops mural almost lost by the noise around it and clearly badly weathered and worn. When they get to look as tired as that, I'd much rather see them put to rest and painted over with something fresh. I guess it must be expected that this sort of Art has a shelf-life and that new stories will step in to take centre stage at some point. I hope that my photographs will continue to capture their limelight days.
