Alumni Carol Service

I was in Southwark Cathedral this week for my University Alumni Carol Service. It was enchanting. Glorious music, aside from the wobbling Soprano who sounded as though she might just warble herself off her feet at any moment, and a church absolutely bursting at the seams with old St Andrews graduates.

They looked familiar although I didn’t know them (I think my vintage might all be off having babies). They still had that St Andrews 'look'! Very hard to define precisely, but here goes: floppy hair, very well-groomed, decent-looking, a few pink shirts, a couple of tartanned dandies, glamorous women, a few collars turned up, pearls and cashmere, and a minority that looked as though they were weather-beaten earth-mothers from the Science Department.

I tried to soak it all up and was very much transported back to the old place, drifting in and out of the Library, up and down The Scores, into Sallies Quad, hopping over the PH under the arch. Time to plan a trip down memory lane.
