Mending home

After eighteen long months, the water has stopped coming into my home and it has begun the handsome journey back to its former glory. The joy has crept through me like a sunrise and I feel a warmth in myself that, I'm sad to say, had gone into hibernation.

Each day, for the past fortnight, I have returned home to find that Danny and his Champion Team have transformed yet another part of my flat. It has been lifted out of the grime, out of the dampness, out of the soulless cold. Floorboards are now warm and clean and soft again. I love walking on them in bare feet. Walls are rich in paint. Woodwork is gleaming white in brilliant contrast. Windows are washed. Curtains are dry-cleaned. Doors are currently being stripped and waxed back to their natural Edwardian grain. New carpets are waiting in the wings for tomorrow’s fitting.

There are divine transformations in all aspects of my Lucy-world. The thrill of being able to think about Dinner Parties too! I cannot wait to feel my home is alive with the laughter, chatter and the love of my friends and family again.
