Having discussed heresy with half of my Y5 girls whilst the rest had nit checks, I asked them to turn to the back of their books and jot down their understanding of this statement: “Heretics were burnt at the stake.”
Some replies:
Kind of cooking them in a whole piece and not cutting them up like in a stew.
It means burning them beside the kitchen.
